Caterpillars

Caterpillar
This is a birthday caterpillar and only shows up occasionally.

Right now I am raising a lot of Monarchs and one Eastern Black Swallowtail.  Twenty Eight of them are very easy-they are chrysalises.  The rest are eating a lot and I have to clean their cages at least twice, but sometimes three times a day.

Butterfly Hospital

HouseOn Friday, I got a butterfly cage at garage sale. It is really a play pen for pets.  I am using it for a butterfly hospital. I put in some milkweed and some salvia for them to eat.  I hope to add more plants later.

I am putting in my sick butterflies.  I can’t free them because they will spread the OE disease. They like to hurt themselves in the smaller cage. They will die happy because of all the room they have to fly around in and they are outside.

Megan and I like to sit inside and watch them.

Lake Ann Camp- Pyramid Point

Pyramid Point- Do you see me in the orange shirt near the back?

Pyramid Point is a sand dune near Lake Ann Camp.  We followed the path up to the sand dunes.  Then once you get to the top, there is a dune of sand you can run down.  I don’t know how many times I did it because I would run up and down the sand dune.  It was fun!

Then we walked a little bit more.  From the top you could see water.  I think they said it was a mile down.  We saw a bunch of islands. One side was woods and the other side we saw a lot of milkweed (I wanted to go collecting 😉 ) and then trees. Then the other side had more sand dunes.

We had chapel on the top of the hill. We were talking about when words can hurt.  We need to be careful what we say, because one word can hurt somebody a lot.  We sang  Oh Happy Day, Romans 16:19 and other fun songs.

I am in the orange shirt near the middle

Once chapel was over, we stood on the opposite side in a line and sang “Our God is so Big!”  It echoed! It was pretty cool. Then we got to run down that side of the hill one at a time.  It was such a narrow path with trees on the sides.  On the way to the bus, we got to see the sun set.

Thank you Lake Ann Camp for permission to use these pictures on my blog!

New Butterflies

Two days ago my first Monarch emerged! It was a girl. Yesterday, I let it go. She hung around for about 5 hours then flew off!

Today, My first eastern black swallowtail emerged! It was a boy. I will let him go soon.

Meganbutterfly Megan wanted me to put the butterfly on her nose. It started tickling. Megan went crossed eyed watching it. Then she wanted it off.

Duck!

DuckWe were going to the park to get some water and food for our tadpoles. We decided to look at the bluebird nests.  Our friend who works at the park has taught us how to check the nests and said we could if we are discreet about it.

Today while we were checking one of the nests, the bluebird kept coming and flying straight towards me.  Mark said that we were playing chicken!  The bird won because I did not want him to whack me and get knocked silly.  (The bird or me!)
