Monarchs

Until the week before camp, we could not find any Monarchs at all. We saw a few flying, but no caterpillars or eggs. Just before camp I had 5 Monarch caterpillars. When I got back I found 48 more!

Today I had three of my Monarchs emerged! All three of them are girls.

Right now I have

  • 3 Butterflies
  • 8 chrysalises
  • 50 Monarch caterpillars, all sizes and
  • 20 eggs

I hope to raise over 100 Monarchs this year!!! Three ButterfliesP.S.  Today I found 9 Eastern Black Swallowtail eggs and 5 Eastern Black Swallowtail caterpillars that are really little.  I hope we caught them before parasitic wasps did!

“Beep” hatching

Friday, I found a robin’s nest as we were getting in the car for Andrea’s tournament. On Monday I checked it, it had two babies!  One was wiggling out of the second half of his egg. I named him “Beep!” The other I named “Tweet.” Tuesday, the third one hatched, his name is “Peep”. I was hoping to watch the fourth one hatch, but I missed 🙁 .  I named him “Squeak”. They are cute.

Aurra Sing

Sunday, the littlest alpaca, Aurra Sing, who is six months old, got stuck in one of the fences and skinned her left back knee raw and hurt her front leg too. Mark carried her into the barn because she could not walk. Megan petted Sing to keep her calm. Mark called the vet, the vet told Mark to keep her in a separate pen and call him in the morning to see how she was.  While Mark was talking to the Vet, I watched Sing and got a pen ready for her.

Monday, Sing could walk if someone helped her up but she was limping. The Vet prescribed some medicine for her. We did school  in the pen with her and I got this cute picture of Mark and Aurra Sing.

She is doing lots better today but still is a little stiff.  We are praying that her leg gets better soon.
