Learning How to Play Soccer

Yesterday, me and Andrea went for our first soccer practice. Daddy is our coach. Mark’s in soccer too. He isn’t on the same team. Mark helped Daddy coach.

At the end we got a water bottle and my uniform and some socks.

Then we got home and we tried on all of our stuff. Momma took a picture of us. We played a funny soccer game.  Me and Andrea just won! Then we  had our “victory ice cream”!

Soccer is going to be fun!

My games will be on Saturdays at 10:00 starting 1 May 2010.

Making Soap

The day before yesterday we went to Mrs. Klaussen’s house.  She is a neighbor.  She taught us how to make soap! It is EASY!

Before we got there she mixed some lye with water. It is dangerous! It looked like crystals. Then she let it cool.

We used a scale and added olive oil, coconut oil and palm oil together. We had to be accurate on the amounts used. We melted it on the stove and then I mixed it to cool it down.  Mark held the thermometer.

Mrs. Klaussen poured the lye in and Momma mixed it.  We put in peppermint smell. After Momma stirred a little more, Mrs Klaussen poured it into cookie molds and milk cartons to mold it.

Then we put a piece of cardboard on top and then we put blankets over it so it could keep warm. Then we went home and let it sit for a day.

The next morning we went to Mrs. Klaussen’s house and took it out of the molds and cut it. One of the soaps has “recycle” on it. That’s my favorite.

We now let the soap sit for three days because it is poisonous. It is very acidy and could hurt you. We have to use plastic gloves to touch it. In three days we turn it and let it air out some more. We have to let it air for three to six weeks before using it.

I want to make soap again!

Something New I Can Do

I told Mark, “can you help me ride Andrea’s bike?” So he did! He helped me, he holded me and then he ran with me and let go. I rode for a little bit and fell.

Then I ran inside,”Mom Mom! I rode Andea’s bike!” Momma said, “without me seeing?” She said, “no way! You can’t ride it!”

Then Momma got some brownies ready–she made them yesterday without us knowing–and said they were to celebrate.

Then I showed Mommy. She let me ride on the road. I shouted, “Zoooommmm”. She took pictures. Momma was surprised, because this was the first time someone helped me to learn. When Mommy watched, I had to turn. With trees in the way, I crashed into them. I did not get hurt, Yippee! Then I ate my brownie! It was good.

I liked riding Andrea’s bike. I liked surprising Mom. She was very surprised. I want to get my training wheels off and ride some more!

Art Exhibit

VaseWe made some vases.  Then we painted some flowers.  Then we cut them out.  Then we glued the flowers on the vases.

You need a dark room.  Then you put a piece of paper on the wall and then you turn a flashlight on and then you make your silhouette. Then you cut it out and glue it on a big piece of construction paper.  You make your flowers–we used water paint.  Then cut them out.  We glued the flowers on.

Picture

I made a picture of me and Daddy.  I used a white board and markers.

These are my best work this week!

Peanut Butter Cups

Press in peanutbutterI wanted to make “Reeces Peanut Butter Cups.”  I like them.  Momma said that we could make some.top with chocolate

First you mix peanut butter with butter and powdered sugar.  Then you paint melted chocolate on paper cups.  Put the peanut butter inside and put dark chocolate on top.  Let the chocolate get hard.

Then you eat it! They taste Yummy Yummy Yummy.  They are better then the store bought ones.  Eat enjoy

New Equipment

HelmetI got a helmet and knee pads and elbow pads from Super Store.  Super Store is a place where we can spend the tickets we earn on Wednesday nights.  We earn the tickets by bringing our Bibles, being good, doing sermon notes, doing quiet times and listening.

equipmentMy helmet has a lady bug on it with big googly eyes.  I have been using them a lot.  I really really really like them.

I also “bought” some sparkly lipstick, pencils and erasures, and fun colored pens and a scooter key chain.

I really like Super Store.

Scarey Crows

Adrian calls scarecrows, Scarey Crows.  We were pretending to be scarey crows.

This is how you make them.  Rake some leaves.  Rake more leaves.  Then stuff the leaves up your shirt and up your arms.  A trick is to use overalls or two shirts.  That way they don’t scratch you. Stuff the leaves some more and some more.

Different color clothes are the best kind.  For scarecrows hats, stuff them.  You can use buckets or hats or dress up clothes hats or you can make one.

If you smile, it is the best thing! If you want a funny scarecrow face, get a BIG leaf, poke two holes (for eyes) and then poke a nose and no mouth.  Use it as a mask.

Which is your favorite Scarey Crow?

The Best Pumpkin Bread

KneadI am learning how to make bread.  The bread is good!  Here is how to make it.

Pumpkin Pilgrim BreadGrease both sides

Mix in a large bowl,

  • 1/2 c cornmeal (white is best, but yellow is okay)
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 Tablespoon salt
  • 1/4 cup rye pieces (like for cereal, or use 1/2 cup rye flour with the other flours)
  • 1 cup quick oats
  • 2 1/2 c boiling water (we used the water we cooked the pumpkin in)Roll the dough
  • 1 Tablespoon cinnamon
  • 2 Tablespoon butter (or oil)
  • 1/2 cup cooked pumpkin (or canned)

Pinch the ends

Let cool until you can put your finger in it and not burn your finger.

Add the remaining ingredients.

  • 2 teaspoon dry yeast
  • 2 cup whole wheat flour (hard white or hard red tastes good)
  • 1/2 cup soy flour (if you want)
  • 3 to 4 cups white flour (more hard white wheat tastes good)  You may need more!

breadStir in enough flour to make the dough not sticky.

Knead it until it feels right.  Let it rise until you poke your two fingers in.  If they don’t come up (the indentations) they are ready.  Divide the dough in half.  Form into rolls and put them in greased pans.  Let rise again.  Bake at 375 degrees until the loaf is browned nicely and sounds hollow when you tap the bottom of the loaf.  It takes a long time.  (About 45 minutes)

FinishedI had fun making the bread!

Butterflies Flying to Mexico

Making my butterflyWe have been learning about butterflies while we raise them.  Monarchs start out as eggs and then hatch into caterpillars.  They eat a lot and start making their web.  They go into a “J” and they make their chrysalis.  Then they turn black, black, black, black and then they will start pulling away from their chrysalis and then they will emerge! ButterfliesIn the fall Monarch butterflies start leaving for Mexico.

We are making Monarch butterflies for Mexico.  Some friends and us are doing them together. We made them yesterday and we will mail them.  Momma says that we can watch on the computer where our butterflies are. When they get to Mexico, we should be able to see that.  In the spring, when the real Monarchs come back, we will be sent some too.   Here is a picture of all the butterflies that were made.

We won’t get the same butterflies back.  They may or may not look as nice because they flew a long way.  If you want to watch too, here is where! Our butterfliesMy butterfly
