How to let a butterfly go

TiggerFeeding TiggerWe have been raising Monarch butterflies.  I raised a girl Monarch butterfly.  I have a chrysalis, two caterpillars and one egg.  I like my caterpillars. The biggest caterpillar we have is Georgie. Soon the butterfly should be hatching.

Taking Tigger outsideWhen their wings are straight, straight, straight, we release them. You have to pinch them by their body in the front.  You pinch them soft. Then you take them outside and put them on a thistle that is open or a flower.  Put them on a thistle and they will stay and eat. Will we fly right away?

When the butterfly opens its wings, if you see a black dot on the bottom of the wing, it means it’s a boy.

If you see a butterfly that looks like a Monarch, but is smaller and has a line near the bottom of it’s wings, it is a Viceroy butterfly.  He likes to eat milkweed too!Letting Tigger free
